**BAKU, Azerbaijan** – The winner of Azerbaijan’s first open international tender for a 100 MW solar power plant, the Gobustan Solar Power Plant (SPP), may be announced at COP29 events in Baku, according to Javid Abdullayev, Director of the Renewable Energy Agency under the Ministry of Energy of Azerbaijan.
The project, supported by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), will see a 300.77-hectare plot on the Absheron Peninsula transformed into a major solar energy facility. The tender, which saw eight companies qualify, is being closely monitored by EBRD experts.
The Gobustan SPP is a key step in Azerbaijan’s strategy to increase the share of renewable energy in its energy mix to 35% by 2030. The project aligns with the country’s commitment to sustainable energy development and reducing carbon emissions.
The announcement of the winning bidder is expected to be made during the COP29 events, which will take place in Baku. This will mark a significant milestone in Azerbaijan’s efforts to transition towards a greener future.
