**New Delhi:** Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday highlighted the benefits of the ‘PM Surya Ghar-Muft Bijli Yojana’ during a visit to Gujarat. He shared a video of his interaction with beneficiaries, showcasing the scheme’s impact on their lives.
One beneficiary, Jagshibhai Suthar, stated that he has been saving Rs 6,000 per month on his electricity bill thanks to the solar panels installed in his home, a government assistance of Rs 78,000 helped him achieve this. Another beneficiary reported using three fans and an air conditioner without fear of inflated bills, a drastic change from their previous situation.
PM Modi used the occasion to criticize the opposition, stating that they use state revenue for elections, unlike his government’s scheme, which does not burden the treasury. He emphasized the environmental benefits of the scheme, stating it will help conserve natural resources and benefit future generations.
The scheme has seen an overwhelming response with 1.5 crore applications received for one crore slots. Solar panels have been installed in 3.5 lakh homes, and PM Modi envisioned a revolution with each family potentially saving Rs 20 lakh over time for their daughters.
He further urged the beneficiaries to practice cleanliness and environmental conservation, emphasizing the importance of planting trees and reducing plastic usage. He promoted his ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign, encouraging people to plant trees and make their society greener within three years.
