**San Francisco, CA -** OpenAI’s highly anticipated o1-mini, a smaller version of its latest large language model (LLM) o1, has been released for free ChatGPT users. This follows the initial rollout to Plus and Team subscribers last week and subsequent availability to Enterprise and Edu subscribers.
o1-mini is distinguished by its enhanced reasoning capabilities, allowing it to tackle complex tasks and solve intricate problems related to science, coding, and mathematics. OpenAI boasts that the model’s performance rivals that of a PhD student in physics, chemistry, and biology, and it achieved remarkable scores in benchmark tests including the International Mathematics Olympiad (IMO) and Codeforces competitions.
To access o1-mini on the desktop version of ChatGPT, users can simply select “Alpha Models” from the ChatGPT Auto dropdown at the top left of the interface. The ChatGPT Auto dropdown will then change to “ChatGPT” followed by the Greek letter alpha, indicating the use of an alpha model.
On the mobile app, users can find the new model by long pressing on a ChatGPT response and selecting “change model” from the context menu. While labeled as “Alpha [gpt-4o],” it remains unclear if this is o1-mini or a more updated version of GPT-4o.
OpenAI’s latest advancements in AI technology continue to push the boundaries of what is possible, and the free availability of o1-mini marks a significant step towards making these powerful tools accessible to everyone.
