Tue Sep 17 07:22:01 UTC 2024: ## Microsoft Fixes Gmail Sync Issues in Outlook

**Seattle, WA – September 17, 2024:** Microsoft has resolved a synchronization issue that prevented users from adding or signing into their Gmail accounts in classic Outlook. The issue, which resulted in error messages like “The browser or app may not be secure” and “We weren’t able to set up your Google account with IMAP,” was caused by a lack of IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol) enabled on the user’s Gmail account.

The company has deployed a fix that addresses the problem by opening a new browser window for sign-in. This fix is available for all Outlook users in the following channels and builds:

* **Current Channel**
* **Preview Channel**
* **Beta Channel**

For users who had temporarily switched to an Insider Channel to workaround the issue, Microsoft has also outlined the steps to switch back to the Current Channel.

This update follows Microsoft’s previous announcement about a “Final Notice” email sent to Outlook users regarding the loss of access to Outlook email on certain third-party apps that do not have Modern Authentication.

This recent fix ensures a smoother experience for users attempting to connect their Gmail accounts to Outlook, allowing seamless access to email from any device.
