Wed Sep 18 06:22:33 UTC 2024: ## Teen Stabbed at Melton Station in Machete Attack

**MELTON, VIC -** A 17-year-old boy from Cobblebank was stabbed at Melton station on Tuesday afternoon, leaving him with non-life-threatening injuries. The incident occurred around 5pm when the victim was reportedly approached by a group of individuals and attacked with a machete following an altercation.

Police are investigating the incident as an affray, which occurs when a fight breaks out involving two or more people. While the circumstances are still under investigation, the offenders fled the scene on foot. One suspect, a 24-year-old Brookfield man, was apprehended shortly after the attack but was later released pending further enquiries.

The stabbing comes as police launched Operation Cavalcade on Monday, deploying Protective Services Officers and transit police to conduct highly visible patrols at Melton station. This initiative aims to address the growing concern of youth knife crime in the area.

Chris Lacey, general manager of programs at the Les Twentyman Foundation, emphasizes the importance of early intervention and prevention programs in schools to curb youth violence. “While we can’t save every child,” Lacey said, “with the right support and early intervention, we can significantly reduce the number of children who make the tragic decision to engage in dangerous and violent behavior.”

The investigation into the stabbing continues. Police urge anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
