Wed Sep 18 06:21:52 UTC 2024: ## Sydney Man Arrested for Running “Unhackable” Underworld Communication Network
**Sydney, Australia** – A 32-year-old Sydney man, Jay Je Yoon Jung, has been arrested for allegedly running the “Ghost” encrypted communication network used by organized crime groups across the globe. The Australian Federal Police (AFP) infiltrated the network six months ago and gathered intelligence that led to the arrest of Jung and several others involved in criminal activities.
The AFP revealed that Jung allegedly operated the network from his bedroom, providing “unhackable” communication devices to criminal groups. The network, which was marketed as “unhackable,” allowed users to communicate with each other without fear of being intercepted by law enforcement.
Jung’s father, Chi, expressed his shock and dismay at the allegations against his son, breaking down in tears when speaking to reporters. The family, who migrated from Korea over 30 years ago, said they were unaware of their son’s alleged criminal activities.
The AFP seized a range of evidence from Jung’s home, including computers and encrypted devices. They also arrested two “resellers” of Ghost phones, who were responsible for distributing the devices to criminal groups.
Among the major targets of the operation was accused drug lord Guy Habkouk, who was found with a Ghost phone in his prison cell while awaiting trial for drug importation. Habkouk allegedly used the phone to plot a “false terror plot” involving acquiring weapons and enlisting others in a terror plot. He was also charged with attempting to import 42 kilograms of cocaine into Sydney.
The AFP also revealed that they intervened in approximately 50 threats to life based on intercepted messages from the Ghost network, including a case where an individual had a firearm held to their head.
This operation, dubbed “Operation Kraken,” has resulted in the arrest of numerous individuals involved in various criminal activities, including drug trafficking, money laundering, and conspiracy to pervert the course of justice. The AFP is continuing to conduct raids and seize assets related to the Ghost network, both domestically and internationally.
