**Chennai, September [Date]** – Tamil Nadu is experiencing an unprecedented heatwave, with temperatures soaring to record highs across the state. Chennai, the capital city, is enduring one of its worst September heat spells, with the Meenambakkam weather station recording a sweltering 39.2 degrees Celsius on Tuesday. This marks the highest temperature recorded in September since 2002, exceeding the normal temperature by 5 degrees.

The heatwave has also broken long-standing records in other parts of the state. Madurai, in particular, is experiencing an intense heatwave, with the airport weather station recording a scorching 41 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, the highest September temperature in over 60 years. Another station in Madurai city recorded 40.8 degrees, the highest in 140 years.

Erode also saw record-breaking temperatures, reaching 39.6 degrees, the highest September temperature in over 25 years. Even Coonoor, a hill station known for its cooler climate, experienced a record-breaking September heatwave, with temperatures reaching 26 degrees, the highest in over 90 years.

According to weather blogger K Srikanth, this abnormal heat is expected to continue for another 3-4 days before relief arrives. The Regional Meteorological Centre has issued a temperature warning till Wednesday, predicting maximum temperatures to be 2-4 degrees above normal.

Chennai is expected to remain hot, with temperatures reaching 38-39 degrees Celsius for the next two days.

The state government is urging residents to take precautions against the extreme heat, including staying hydrated and avoiding outdoor activities during the hottest hours of the day.
