Sun Sep 15 17:43:16 UTC 2024: ## Oscar Piastri’s Bold Move Secures Azerbaijan Grand Prix Victory

Oscar Piastri claimed a thrilling victory at the Formula 1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix, taking the lead with a daring overtake on Charles Leclerc on lap 20. The Australian driver, using DRS, closed the gap to Leclerc before diving to the inside, braking late to secure the pass.

Piastri then held his lead despite Leclerc’s attempts to reclaim the top spot. This victory marks his second Grand Prix win of the season and propels McLaren to the top of the F1 standings.

The winning move was a calculated risk. Piastri admitted to his race engineer, Tom Stallard, that he had attempted a similar maneuver earlier in the race, only to damage his tires. Stallard advised against repeating the move, but Piastri ultimately disregarded the advice, stating that he felt patience wouldn’t have yielded a win.

“I felt a bit sorry for my race engineer because I basically tried to do that in the first stint and completely cooked my tires,” Piastri said. “I completely ignored him the next lap and sent it down the inside.”

The gamble paid off, proving Piastri’s confidence and decisive decision-making skills. Despite the initial concerns, Stallard, who joined Piastri on the podium, ultimately celebrated the success of his driver’s bold move.
