Sun Sep 15 17:35:11 UTC 2024: ## Vance Backtracks on Trump’s Abortion Stance After Debate Controversy

Senator JD Vance (R-OH) has announced he will no longer speak for his running mate, former President Donald Trump, without first consulting with him. This comes after a heated debate last week where Trump refused to commit to signing or vetoing a bill banning abortions, should such legislation reach his desk.

During the debate, Trump dismissed the question as a hypothetical and claimed Congress would never pass such legislation. He also stated that he and Vance had not discussed the issue.

Following the debate, Vance was pressed by numerous news outlets to clarify Trump’s stance on the issue, but he offered evasive responses.

On Sunday’s “Meet the Press,” Vance addressed the controversy, admitting he had “learned his lesson” about speaking on behalf of the former president without first coordinating with him.

“His point is that it was a hypothetical and not a hypothetical that has any chance of actually crossing his desk,” Vance explained. He confirmed that Trump does not support a national abortion ban and believes the debate over a veto is pointless given the unlikelihood of such legislation being passed.

This backtracking by Vance highlights the ongoing debate surrounding abortion rights in the post-Roe v. Wade era. While Trump and Vance have both stressed their support for returning abortion decisions to the states, the issue remains a divisive one with significant public attention.
