**Srinagar, Kashmir** – Thousands of devotees converged at the revered Hazratbal shrine in Srinagar on Monday night for special prayers marking the celebration of Eid-e-Milad un Nabi, the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). The shrine is expected to see a surge in visitors throughout the day on Tuesday, with devotees eagerly awaiting the display of the holy relic after each of the five daily prayers.
Eid-e-Milad un Nabi is celebrated with great religious fervour across Jammu and Kashmir, as well as the rest of India and the world. The day serves as a time for Muslims to reaffirm their faith and draw inspiration from Prophet Muhammad’s life, teachings, and exemplary character. The occasion emphasizes messages of peace, love, and empathy, fostering harmony within the Muslim community and promoting understanding between different faiths.
The Hazratbal shrine, home to a revered relic of Prophet Muhammad, witnessed a continuous flow of devotees throughout the night, offering prayers and seeking blessings. Similar prayers were held at numerous mosques and shrines across Kashmir. The shrine will host congregational afternoon prayers on Tuesday followed by the display of the holy relic. Devotees who participated in the night-long prayers will also have the opportunity to view the relic after Fajr prayers (pre-dawn prayers) on Tuesday.
In anticipation of the large crowds, the Waqaf Board has ensured all necessary arrangements for the convenience of devotees, including sanitation services, medical assistance, and transportation facilities. Special ‘Hazratbal’ buses have been deployed by the Road Transport Corporation (RTC) to facilitate travel between Lal Chowk and the shrine. The authorities have also implemented comprehensive security measures in and around the shrine, with police closely monitoring traffic and parking arrangements.
