**Lagos, Nigeria** – The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has confirmed the purchase of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, from the Dangote Refinery at N898 per litre.
The news comes amidst conflicting reports circulating about the price of the fuel. While some sources claimed NNPCL had purchased the fuel at N760 per litre, NNPCL Spokesperson Olufemi Soneye clarified the actual price, stating that “the claim that we purchased it at N760 per liter is incorrect.”
NNPCL began loading fuel from the 650,000 capacity refinery in Lagos on Sunday, with over 70 trucks already loaded. This move marks a significant step towards alleviating Nigeria’s fuel scarcity and dependence on imported fuel.
The revelation of the fuel purchase price comes after weeks of negotiations between NNPCL and Dangote Refinery, including discussions on the possibility of a permanent NNPCL office space at the refinery.
The transaction has sparked debate regarding the impact on fuel prices in the Nigerian market. With the Dangote Refinery now operational, it is expected to play a crucial role in ensuring fuel security and potentially driving down prices in the long term.
