**Jacob Bertrand, star of the hit Netflix series “Cobra Kai,” has revealed exclusive details about the upcoming “Karate Kid” movie, due for release in May 2025.**
Bertrand, who plays Hawk in the series, says he’s been receiving updates from his former co-star Ralph Macchio, who plays Daniel LaRusso in both the original “Karate Kid” films and the “Cobra Kai” series. According to Bertrand, Macchio has been sharing behind-the-scenes stories about the new film, particularly about his experiences working with Jackie Chan, who plays the mentor role.
“He [Macchio] was just talking about being nervous to fight Jackie Chan, ’cause Jackie Chan is freaking Jackie muh-fricking Chan,” Bertrand revealed. “But he said the fights went super well and that all his stuff was great and I’m stoked for the movie.”
The new “Karate Kid” movie follows a similar premise to the original films, featuring a young student learning martial arts from a wise mentor, though this time the student will be learning from an older, wiser Chan. The film will be directed by Jonathan Entwistle, known for his work on “I’m Not Okay with This” and “The End of the F***ing World,” and written by Rob Lieber.
While the “Cobra Kai” cast and crew are not involved in the new movie, Bertrand assures fans that the series’ creators are actively exploring the possibility of a “Cobra Kai” movie. The final season of the show is being split into three parts, with part two set to premiere on Netflix November 15. Bertrand says this decision was not made by the cast but assures fans it will be worth the wait.
“You can’t make everybody happy, but I was happy with the ending,” Bertrand says of the show’s conclusion.
The new “Karate Kid” movie is expected to hit theaters on May 30, 2025.
