Mon Sep 16 18:57:02 UTC 2024: ## Maharashtra Government Shifts Eid-e-Milad Holiday, Affecting Bank Operations
**Mumbai, September 16, 2024** – The Maharashtra government has announced a change to its holiday calendar, moving the Eid-e-Milad holiday from September 16th to September 18th. This decision was made to avoid a clash with the Ganesh immersion festival. Following suit, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has also revised its holiday plans for the same date.
The shift means banks in Mumbai and surrounding areas will now be open on Monday, September 16th, contrary to earlier announcements. However, banks will be closed on Wednesday, September 18th, due to the rescheduled Eid-e-Milad holiday. RBI has clarified that all transactions and settlements in government securities, foreign exchange, money markets and rupee interest rate derivatives on September 18th will be postponed to Thursday, September 19th.
Several other states, including Gujarat, Mizoram, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Manipur, Jammu, Kerala, Uttar Pradesh, New Delhi, Chhattisgarh, and Jharkhand, will also observe Eid-e-Milad on September 18th, resulting in bank closures in these regions. Additionally, Sikkim will be closed on September 18th for Pang-Lhabsol.
Individuals planning to visit bank branches on September 16th or 18th are advised to check the official list of bank holidays on the RBI website or with their respective banks for confirmation.
