**New Delhi, September 17, 2024:** Senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Atishi will become the new Chief Minister of Delhi, the party announced today. The decision was made unanimously by all AAP MLAs after incumbent Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal proposed her name as his successor.

Atishi, currently a Cabinet Minister in the Delhi Government, holds key portfolios including Education, PWD, and Power. She is the MLA from Kalkaji and has been involved with the AAP since 2013. With this appointment, she will become the third woman Chief Minister of Delhi, following Sushma Swaraj and Sheila Dikshit.

Kejriwal announced his resignation as Chief Minister on Sunday, citing his desire to seek a mandate from the people of Delhi through an early Assembly election. He believes this election will allow the people to judge the AAP government’s honesty.

Kejriwal is scheduled to meet Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena at 4:30 PM today to formally tender his resignation, paving the way for Atishi to take over as the new Chief Minister.

This decision follows a meeting between Kejriwal and his former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Monday, where they discussed potential candidates to lead the Delhi government. The AAP’s Political Affairs Committee (PAC) later met to finalize the decision.

Kejriwal’s resignation comes after he spent nearly six months in jail in connection with the Delhi liquor policy case. Sisodia, who was also jailed in the same case, has expressed his support for Kejriwal’s decision to go back to the people for a mandate.
