Sun Sep 15 16:37:31 UTC 2024: ## Tottenham’s Set-Piece Woes Continue, Postecoglou Defends Training

**London, England** – Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has defended his team’s set-piece training after a costly goal from Arsenal’s Gabriel Magalhães in the North London derby. The goal, a header from a corner, handed Arsenal a 1-0 victory and further exposed Tottenham’s vulnerability in defending dead-ball situations.

Since the start of last season, only Nottingham Forest have conceded more goals from set-pieces than Spurs (18), highlighting the issue that has plagued the club for some time. Despite the criticism, Postecoglou insisted that he and his team are dedicated to improving their set-piece defense.

“I know that, for some reason, people think I don’t care about set-pieces,” Postecoglou told reporters after the game. “We work on them all the time. We held them [Arsenal] well for the most part, but switched off for one and paid a price.”

He acknowledged that the delivery from Arsenal was excellent and that Gabriel is a natural threat in such situations, but also pointed out that individual lapses in concentration led to the goal.

While defending his training approach, Postecoglou also expressed frustration with his team’s lack of belief in the final third, attributing their struggles to a lack of conviction in finishing their chances. Tottenham have only won one league game this season and are still searching for consistency under Postecoglou.

Despite the recent disappointing results, Postecoglou remains committed to developing his team’s attacking style, emphasizing the importance of turning their possession into meaningful goals. He believes that refining the finer details of their game will ultimately lead to the desired results.

“We’ve just got to keep working at it, guide the players in the right way,” Postecoglou concluded. “It was always going to be decided in moments, and they [Arsenal] capitalized on theirs.”
