**Uzairue, Edo State** – Edo University has launched a mandatory one-year industrial training program for Chemical and Mechanical Engineering students, aimed at equipping them with the skills needed to convert fuel vehicles to gas. This initiative, according to Acting Vice Chancellor Prof. Dawood Egbefo, is part of a broader effort to reduce the burden of high fuel costs, increase access to affordable transportation, and stimulate economic growth.

The program is a collaborative effort between the university, the Nigerian Independent Petroleum Company (NIPCO), the Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas, and the Edo State Ministry of Mining and Energy. Prof. Egbefo highlighted the program’s alignment with the vision of the University’s visitor, Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki, who has prioritized sustainable solutions for the state.

“This strategic partnership will yield lasting benefits for our communities and the nation,” Prof. Egbefo emphasized, citing the program’s potential to reduce carbon emissions and alleviate poverty. He further commended the university’s commitment to innovation, social responsibility, and collaboration with government and industry partners.

Prof. Egbefo also highlighted Edo University’s commitment to academic excellence, citing the institution’s lack of strikes and its dedication to meeting student needs. He believes these factors make the university the “best destination for students striving for academic excellence.”

The program is expected to equip students with the skills needed to contribute to the burgeoning gas conversion industry, creating new job opportunities and contributing to a more sustainable future.
