**Oklahoma City, OK** – A simple Starbucks drive-thru order for a venti iced americano and a caramel frappuccino turned into a financial nightmare for Jesse and Deedee O’Dell, costing them thousands of dollars and forcing them to cancel their dream vacation to Thailand.
The couple, regular Starbucks patrons, were shocked to discover a $4,444.44 gratuity charge added to their $11.83 order. “I entered no tip,” Jesse O’Dell explained, “but somehow, there’s a massive tip on it.”
Despite initial assurances from Starbucks that the charge was legitimate, the company eventually agreed to reimburse the O’Dells. However, the first set of refund checks bounced due to a typo.
The financial stress caused by the error forced the family to cancel their non-refundable trip to Chonburi, Thailand, where Deedee is from. “We had planned to take a trip but had to cancel,” said Jesse, “and the tickets are non-refundable.”
After LADbible contacted Starbucks about the situation, a spokesperson stated: “This was an unfortunate situation that has since been resolved. The tip was entered by the customer in error.” They confirmed that new checks were issued on January 31st and successfully cashed by the O’Dells on February 6th.
While the situation has been resolved, the O’Dells urge other Starbucks customers to double-check their receipts for any errors to avoid a similar predicament. “This is something that has caused huge duress in our own family, and hopefully other people don’t have to go through something like this,” Jesse stated.
