The 76th Primetime Emmy Awards, held on September 15th at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, showcased the best of television and celebrated some historic wins.

FX’s “Shogun” dominated the night, becoming the first majority non-English language series to win Best Drama Series, a groundbreaking achievement. The show also garnered an unprecedented 18 Emmys, including wins for cinematography, visual effects, and production design. Hiroyuki Sanada, who starred in the series, became the first Japanese actor to win Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series, while Anna Sawai became the first actress of Asian descent to win Best Actress.

In a surprising turn of events, HBO Max’s “Hacks” snatched the Best Comedy Series award from the anticipated frontrunner, “The Bear”. Jean Smart won Best Actress in a Comedy Series for her performance, and the show’s writers were recognized for their work on the episode “Bulletproof”. While “The Bear” didn’t take home the top prize, it still had a successful night, earning 11 Emmys, including a record for the most Emmys won by a comedy series in a single year.

“Baby Reindeer” swept the Limited/Anthology Series categories, winning four Emmys including Best Limited Series. Jodie Foster received her first Emmy for her role in “True Detective: Night Country,” and Elizabeth Debicki won her first Emmy for her portrayal of Princess Diana in “The Crown”, becoming the first Australian actress to win Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series.
