Sun Sep 15 10:18:00 UTC 2024: ## Fields Gets Another Shot as Wilson Remains Questionable for Week 2
Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Russell Wilson is likely to miss a second consecutive week due to a calf injury, paving the way for Justin Fields to start against the Denver Broncos. Despite Wilson being listed as questionable, head coach Mike Tomlin hinted that his availability is unlikely, stating, “If his availability is questionable, then starting is less so.”
Fields performed admirably in his first start, completing 17 of 23 passes for 156 yards and adding 57 rushing yards. While not spectacular, he was efficient and turnover-free. This performance, combined with Wilson’s continued recovery, suggests that Fields will have a second chance to prove himself.
Fields’ rushing upside, coupled with his familiarity with the offense, makes him a viable fantasy option. While he might be ranked as a mid-range QB2, his potential to finish outside the top-10 is a strong consideration, making him a more attractive pick than other quarterbacks like Joe Burrow and Baker Mayfield.
If Fields delivers another solid performance and leads the Steelers to victory, it will be difficult for Tomlin to bench him in favor of Wilson. As such, Fields is worth stashing for fantasy owners, especially given his potential to develop into the team’s long-term starter.
The Steelers’ offensive players also benefited from Fields’ presence in Week 1. While Najee Harris’ rushing yards were limited, George Pickens emerged as a favorite target, racking up 85 receiving yards. Pat Friermuth also showed promise with four receptions, albeit for only 27 yards.
The game in Denver presents a fresh opportunity for Fields to solidify his position and potentially become the Steelers’ go-to quarterback.
