Sun Sep 15 10:07:00 UTC 2024: ## Kejriwal Resigns, BJP Alleges “Desperation” Amidst AAP Rift Rumors

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has announced his resignation, effective within 48 hours, citing a desire to seek justice in the “people’s court” following his bail in a corruption case. The BJP, however, sees this move as a sign of internal party strife and “desperation” ahead of the upcoming elections.

BJP MP Sudhanshu Trivedi questioned the timing of the resignation, pointing out that Kejriwal remained in office despite facing jail time earlier. He also suggested the resignation stemmed from a power struggle within the AAP, saying, “Maybe this talk of a poll battle is coming from a battle within your party that you feel you cannot handle.”

Delhi BJP chief Virendraa Sachdeva accused Kejriwal of being “corrupt” and highlighted various failures of the AAP government, including the deaths of 40 children due to uncleaned drains and a shortage of teachers in Delhi schools.

While AAP ministers Saurabh Bharadwaj and Atishi defended Kejriwal’s decision as a sign of his commitment to honesty and fighting corruption, the Congress dismissed the resignation as a “political stunt.” Delhi Congress chief Devender Yadav stated that the resignation is a result of the Supreme Court’s restrictions on Kejriwal’s powers as Chief Minister.

Kejriwal’s resignation announcement comes amidst a backdrop of his bail in a case related to Delhi’s scrapped liquor policy. The Supreme Court’s conditions on his bail limit his ability to function as Chief Minister, including restrictions on entering his office and signing official documents without the Lieutenant Governor’s approval.

The BJP’s accusations of a party rift and Kejriwal’s decision to seek justice through a public referendum ahead of the upcoming elections have added another layer of intrigue to Delhi’s political landscape.
