Sun Sep 15 12:47:27 UTC 2024: ## New Mexico Offers $1,000 Stimulus Payments to Help Residents Cope with Rising Costs

**Santa Fe, NM** – In an effort to ease the financial burden on residents struggling with inflation, New Mexico is offering a $1,000 stimulus payment to eligible individuals. This move comes as the state enjoys a strong financial position and seeks to share the success with its residents.

Governor Lujan Grisham emphasized the importance of the program, stating, “Prices for basic necessities continue to be high across the nation. Our state today is in a fantastic financial position, and it’s important to me that New Mexico’s families are sharing in that success.”

The program provides a $1,000 refundable income tax rebate for married couples filing jointly, heads of household, and surviving spouses. Single filers and married individuals filing separately will receive $500.

Those eligible will receive the payments automatically, provided they filed a 2021 Personal Income Tax (PIT) return and are not listed as a dependent on another taxpayer’s return. Checks will be mailed through the end of June, while direct deposits are expected to be disbursed the week of June 19th.

Residents have until May 31st, 2024, to file their 2021 PIT return if they have not already done so.

For those who do not qualify for the rebates, New Mexico has allocated $15 million for relief payments of $500 or $1,000. These payments are distributed through an application process with the Human Services Department.

This initiative aims to provide much-needed financial support to New Mexicans struggling with the rising cost of living. The program highlights the state’s commitment to alleviating the burden on its residents during challenging economic times.
