**Kannauj, Uttar Pradesh:** In a heart-wrenching incident, 45-year-old Vijay Kumar, who was released from prison just a day earlier after serving nine years for a murder conviction, died in a road accident on the Lucknow-Agra Expressway on Thursday. His daughter also perished in the accident when their autorickshaw was struck by an SUV.
Kumar, a resident of Kannauj, was convicted in 2012 for the murder of a man and sentenced to life imprisonment along with four others, including his brother Ram Babu. While the others were released earlier, Kumar remained incarcerated until Wednesday, when he was released following an appeal and was returning home with his family.
The fatal accident occurred near the Talgram area when the autorickshaw, carrying Kumar, his wife, and his daughter, was hit from behind by an SUV traveling from Delhi. Kumar and his daughter were killed on the spot, while his wife and the rickshaw driver sustained injuries and were hospitalized.
The SUV driver has been arrested, and the police are investigating the accident. Kumar’s brother, Ram Babu, expressed his grief, stating that Vijay had been eagerly awaiting his release after being transferred to the Etawah jail in 2016.
The accident has cast a shadow of tragedy over Kumar’s family, who had just begun their reunion after years of separation. The incident highlights the fragility of life and the unpredictable nature of fate.
