Sat Sep 14 07:15:50 UTC 2024: ## Tamil Nadu CM Stalin to Meet PM Modi over NEP and Metro Rail Funding
**Chennai:** Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi soon to discuss the funding for the second phase of the Chennai Metro Rail project and the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP).
This comes after Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan stated that the state should accept NEP as a condition for receiving central funding for projects. In response, CM Stalin confirmed that Tamil Nadu school education officials are already in talks with Union officials about NEP implementation.
Furthermore, CM Stalin addressed the recent controversy surrounding the funding for the Chennai Metro Rail project. Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had claimed that the state government spent only Rs 5880 crore of the Rs 21,000 crore loan facilitated by the central government, while Tamil Nadu Finance Minister Thangam Thennarasu countered this by stating that the state had already spent Rs 18,564 crore on the project.
CM Stalin’s meeting with Prime Minister Modi is expected to shed light on these issues and potentially pave the way for further collaboration between the state and central governments.
In a separate development, CM Stalin hinted at a potential reshuffle in the Tamil Nadu Cabinet, stating that “change was inevitable.” He emphasized the DMK’s commitment to fulfilling its promises and that the party’s 75th anniversary would be a time for “change” and “fulfilling expectations.”
The VCK’s decision to invite the AIADMK for a conference demanding prohibition in Tamil Nadu was also addressed by CM Stalin, who stated that there was no need for him to comment on the matter as VCK leader Thirumavalavan had clarified that the conference was not politically motivated.
