Sat Sep 14 18:58:00 UTC 2024: ## Bengaluru FC Ready for ISL Opener Against East Bengal, Looking for Fresh Start
**Bengaluru, India:** Bengaluru FC are set to kick off their Indian Super League (ISL) campaign against East Bengal on Saturday, aiming to put a disappointing last season behind them and challenge for the ISL Shield and Cup.
The Sree Kanteerava Stadium is abuzz with excitement, adorned with fresh paint, new player cutouts, and a meticulously manicured pitch, all signaling a fresh start for the Blues.
The match will see a familiar face on the opposite side of the pitch. Carles Cuadrat, who led Bengaluru FC to the ISL title in 2018-19, will be leading East Bengal this season. He’ll face off against his former assistant, Gerard Zaragoza, now Bengaluru FC’s head coach.
Zaragoza acknowledged Cuadrat’s coaching prowess during a pre-match press conference but emphasized his competitive spirit, stating, “He’s an ISL champion. But when the game starts, he’s not so much a friend. I would want to win, even if I was up against my wife!”
Both teams have bolstered their rosters with high-profile signings. Bengaluru FC brought in India captain Rahul Bheke, Alberto Noguera, Jorge Pereyra Diaz, and Edgar Mendes, while East Bengal acquired last season’s golden boot winner Dimitrios Diamantakos, midfielder Madih Talal, and defender Anwar Ali.
Zaragoza highlighted the importance of a strong start and emphasized his team’s tactical flexibility. He emphasized the importance of building a strong team spirit and underlined the need to adapt their game based on their opponent.
“The players we have signed are as per our philosophy. Now it’s our job to make a group and a family,” Zaragoza said.
With both teams boasting strong squads, the match promises to be a tightly contested affair. Zaragoza called on the Bengaluru FC faithful to fill the “Fortress” and create a hostile environment for their opponents, a vital factor that could sway the outcome of the game.
“They (East Bengal) have good quality, a really good team. But I always believe a lot in the Kanteerava and our supporters,” he said.
The match kicks off at 7:30 PM IST.
