**Brussels, Belgium** – Olympic silver medalist Neeraj Chopra of India is set to compete in the Diamond League Final in Brussels on Saturday, aiming for a strong finish to a challenging season. Chopra, who has battled a persistent groin injury throughout the year, will be looking to reclaim the Diamond Trophy, a prize he won in 2022.
The competition will be fierce, with Grenada’s Anderson Peters, the former world champion, already setting a strong pace. Peters, who won bronze in Paris and claimed victories in Lausanne and Zurich, has already thrown 87.87 meters in his first attempt.
Germany’s Julian Weber, who has been consistent throughout the season, is also a strong contender, starting with a solid 85.97 meters.
Chopra, known for his consistent performances beyond 85 meters, has been pushing to break the elusive 90-meter barrier. He has come close on several occasions, including his Olympic silver-winning throw of 89.45 meters.
However, Peters’ impressive performance in his opening throw could pose a challenge for Chopra. The Indian star will need a significant performance to secure the Diamond Trophy, particularly with a strong field of competitors.
The competition will also feature Belgium’s Timothy Herman, Japan’s Roderick Genki Dean, Ukraine’s Artur Felfner, and Moldova’s Andrian Mardare.
Chopra, who has chosen to delay surgery on his groin injury, will use the Diamond League Final as a final test before deciding on his future treatment. He will be looking to end the season on a high note, potentially with a record-breaking throw, and secure the coveted Diamond Trophy.
