Sat Sep 14 18:57:37 UTC 2024: ## Forest Outfox Liverpool in 1-0 Win, Slot Suffers First Defeat

Nottingham Forest pulled off a stunning upset on Saturday, defeating Liverpool 1-0 at Anfield and handing new manager Arne Slot his first loss in charge. The victory sees Forest jump to fourth place in the Premier League with eight points from four games.

Forest’s tactics, centered around a packed midfield and stifling Liverpool’s wide players, proved highly effective. Despite some decent chances in the first half, Liverpool failed to find the back of the net.

“The result frustrates the most, and we cannot be happy about how the game went,” said Slot. “It was a stop-start game and we hardly created any chances. We only have to look at ourselves — we have to be better. Far too many times we lost the ball around the area, it was not good enough. We have to be better with the ball.”

The winning goal arrived in the second half, with substitutes Anthony Elanga and Callum Hudson-Odoi combining for the latter to score on the counter-attack.

“Our decisions and execution weren’t good enough,” Slot acknowledged. “In general, we defended quite well, but the two fast players came on and made it difficult. We took a lot of risk, and in the end, it was a very good goal.”

Forest manager Nuno Espírito Santo was delighted with his side’s performance and their ability to execute the game plan. “The only way to achieve anything here is if you are organised and do everything that you can,” he stated.

This victory comes after Forest flirted with relegation in previous seasons. They are now showing signs of real progress under Espírito Santo. “We are working hard, and it is about building and believing in this idea that you can develop,” the manager said.

Liverpool, now in second place with nine points, will be looking to bounce back from this unexpected defeat and continue their strong start to the season.
