Fri Sep 13 09:15:57 UTC 2024: ## Nigerian Junior D’Tigers Out of Afrobasket U18 Championship

**Pretoria, South Africa** – Nigeria’s Under-18 Men’s Basketball team, the Junior D’Tigers, have been eliminated from the 2024 Afrobasket U18 Championship following a 81-70 loss to Mali in the quarterfinals on Thursday.

Despite a strong effort, the Junior D’Tigers were unable to overcome the Malians who dominated the game from the start. Mali took the first quarter 23-19 and led at halftime 40-38. Despite attempts to gain control, the Nigerian team ultimately fell to their opponents.

The Junior D’Tigers previously defeated Uganda 72-61 on Tuesday to reach the quarterfinals. The winners and runners-up of the Afrobasket U18 Championship will qualify for the FIBA World Championship in Switzerland.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian women’s team, the J’Tigress, advanced to the semifinals after defeating Egypt 61-56 in their quarterfinals match on Wednesday. They will face Uganda in the semifinals on Friday.

In other news, Rwanda’s Under 18 men’s national team was eliminated after a shock 53-67 quarterfinal loss to Cameroon. Cameroon dominated the latter half of the game to secure their place in the semifinals.

Rwanda will now compete in a classification game for the 5th to 8th positions.
