Fri Sep 13 11:56:00 UTC 2024: ## Speak No Evil Remake Takes a British Twist and Explores Violence in a New Light

**LONDON -** The director of the upcoming horror remake “Speak No Evil,” James Watkins, has revealed some key changes he made to the original Danish thriller, ensuring a fresh and gripping experience for audiences.

Watkins, known for his work on “The Woman in Black,” chose to set the remake in the UK, focusing on an awkward American couple who clash with the seemingly eccentric British couple, Paddy and Ciara (played by James McAvoy and Aisling Franciosi).

“We’re not great at setting stories in the UK,” Watkins explained, noting that he wanted to explore the “mythologizing” of the British landscape often seen in American thrillers. This decision, however, also served to highlight the contrasting characters and their interactions, with the American couple’s politeness clashing with Paddy and Ciara’s more brash personalities.

The remake, while retaining the original’s dramatic tonal shift in the third act, delves deeper into the psychology of the characters, particularly how they react to violence. “Most of us are very bad at interacting with violence,” Watkins said, explaining that he wanted to explore how “real people” would react to such a situation.

“There’s no way when the cat’s out the bag, and they’re at risk and their child’s at risk, that they wouldn’t at least try,” he said.

The director also added a layer of ambiguity to the characters, particularly Ciara, whose role as a victim and possibly a manipulator is questioned throughout the film. “She’s Paddy’s secret weapon,” he explained, highlighting her role in the couple’s manipulative scheme.

“Speak No Evil,” now playing in cinemas, has already garnered rave reviews for its gripping and unexpected twists, promising a chilling experience for even the most seasoned horror fans.
