**Paris, France** – Paris Saint-Germain manager Luis Enrique has declared his unwavering approach despite a congested fixture list, which includes a Ligue 1 match against Brest this weekend and the start of their Champions League campaign just four days later.
The new Champions League format means PSG will face eight matches between now and January, compared to the previous six. Despite the increased workload, Enrique insists his coaching style will remain unchanged.
“It’s true, the schedule is a bit different, but I don’t think it is going to change the way I work as a coach,” Enrique told reporters on Friday. “I have principles that I think are best for the team. It is always good to have around 20 players who think they can play, rather than 12 or 13. That is something that has always produced the best results from me.”
PSG are currently topping the Ligue 1 table with nine points after three wins, while Brest sit in 12th place with three points. Despite their contrasting positions, Enrique recognizes Brest’s threat, particularly after their 2-2 draw against PSG in Paris last season.
“We analysed what they did against us last season. We found it very difficult in every game without exception,” Enrique said. “So it will be the same thing tomorrow.”
PSG will be without midfielders Vitinha and Warren Zaire-Emery due to injuries sustained during the international break. Goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma’s availability is uncertain after he became a father, while forward Bradley Barcola continues to impress after scoring four goals in PSG’s opening three games.
“It would be easy to protect the players without journalists. Right now everyone is talking about Barcola,” Enrique said. “People said he couldn’t play in the past, that he wasn’t ready for the Champions League… but we’re lucky that he is very sensible, humble and hard-working.”
The match against Brest will be a crucial test for PSG before they begin their European campaign on Wednesday against Spanish side Girona.
