**Washington, D.C.** – A bipartisan group of House lawmakers, including six Republicans, have pledged to certify the results of the 2024 presidential election, potentially thwarting former President Donald Trump’s attempts to overturn the outcome.
This pledge comes amid concerns that Trump, who has repeatedly hinted at refusing to accept a loss, may pressure House Republicans to block the certification process, as he did in 2020. However, the bipartisan group, spearheaded by Reps. Josh Gottheimer (D-NJ) and Don Bacon (R-NE), aims to prevent such a scenario.
“In America we respect election results especially once the courts and appeals work through the process,” said Rep. Bacon, emphasizing traditional American values. “We fight hard to win during campaigns and then respect the results when the votes are counted.”
The group’s formation comes as Trump has been increasingly vocal about his potential refusal to accept the election results and has continued to promote unsubstantiated claims of voter fraud. This echoes his actions following the 2020 election, where he pressured officials, made false claims, and ultimately incited the January 6th Capitol riot.
Meanwhile, a North Carolina woman, Justina Guardino, the vice president of a county chapter of Moms for Liberty, has been arrested for her alleged involvement in the January 6th attack. This arrest adds to the over 1,300 people who have been arrested in connection with the Capitol riot.
Moms for Liberty, a conservative organization known for its efforts to censor information in public schools, has faced recent setbacks, including electoral losses and a scandal involving one of its founders. The organization has also been linked to the Proud Boys, a far-right group whose leaders were convicted of seditious conspiracy for their role in the Capitol riot.
In other news, former President Trump threatened Nasdaq and the SEC after his company, Trump Media, faced trading halts due to volatility. He claimed the actions were politically motivated and threatened to move the stock to the New York Stock Exchange.
Finally, the founder of the digital agency Authentic, Mike Nellis, has accused Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) of abusing his power in seeking to investigate the agency. Jordan has sought information from Nellis, who was previously involved in the legal case against Trump, but Nellis has denied any wrongdoing and accused Jordan of acting on the basis of false allegations.
