**Paris, France** – The New Zealand Paralympic Team made a strong start to the Paris 2024 Games, with standout performances from Para cyclist Nicole Murray and Para badminton player Wojtek Czyz.
Murray, competing in the Women’s C4-5 500m Time Trial, smashed the New Zealand record in qualifying before securing fifth place in the final. Her performance, which included two of her fastest times ever, bodes well for her upcoming events.
Czyz, a seven-time Paralympic medallist in Para athletics, made his debut for New Zealand in Para badminton. Despite a broken prosthetic shortly before his opening match, he put up a spirited fight against Tokyo 2020 silver medallist Daniel Bethell. While he ultimately fell short, Czyz demonstrated his dedication and commitment to the sport.
Other Kiwi athletes competing on day one included Para swimmer Cameron Leslie, who competed in the heats of the Men’s 100m Freestyle S4.
Day two of the games promises more exciting action, with Michael Johnson competing in the R4 Mixed 10m Air Rifle Standing SH2, and Para cyclists Anna Taylor and Devon Briggs taking to the track in the individual pursuit.
The New Zealand Paralympic Team is aiming for a successful Games, with hopes of achieving strong results across multiple disciplines.
