Fri Sep 13 13:16:00 UTC 2024: ## Isiolo Stadium Project: No Misappropriation, Construction Continues Despite Delays
**Isiolo, Kenya:** Officials from the Isiolo County Government have denied allegations of misappropriation of funds intended for the completion of the Isiolo Stadium. The claims, which sparked public outcry, were dismissed as false and misleading.
According to CEC for Education, Youth, and Sports, Aileen Kajuju, the current administration has not disbursed any funds for the project, which began under the previous administration in 2019. All payments made to the contractor were completed during the previous governor’s tenure, she clarified.
The CEC stated that the project’s progress has been hindered by ongoing investigations by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), the Covid-19 pandemic, and heavy rains.
Accounting Officer Diba Abduba, further elaborated on the project’s financial status. The total project cost is Sh345,998,000, with Sh231,622,838 already paid to the contractor.
Abduba refuted claims of exorbitant spending, stating that the project’s budget has been allocated and paid out in phases, corresponding with the work completed during each financial year. He urged the public to verify information with relevant offices before sharing unverified claims.
The county government has assured the public that the remaining funds will be used to complete the playing turf and final touches once the EACC investigation is concluded. Experts from the state department of public works have already assessed the project, confirming it to be 67% complete.
