Fri Sep 13 00:36:00 UTC 2024: ## Dearborn Sausage Company Recalls Nearly 2,000 Pounds of Wieners Due to Mislabeling and Undeclared Allergens

**[City, State] – [Date]** – The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has issued a Class I recall for nearly 2,000 pounds of ready-to-eat hot dog products produced by the Michigan-based Dearborn Sausage Company. The recall stems from mislabeling and the presence of undeclared allergens – pork and soy – in the products.

The recall affects 2-pound vacuum-sealed packages of Brookside brand fully cooked natural casing beef wieners and Brookside brand natural casing fully cooked wieners. These products were produced on August 7, 2024, and shipped to Ohio.

The mislabeling occurred when the company inadvertently switched product labels, resulting in beef wiener products being labeled as beef and pork wiener products (containing undeclared soy) and vice versa. This means some packages labeled as beef and pork contain only beef with soy, while packages labeled as beef actually contain beef and pork.

The FSIS considers this a Class I recall, indicating a high or medium risk of adverse health consequences, including serious illness or death. Soy is a common allergen, and its absence from the product label poses a significant risk to consumers with soy allergies.

Symptoms of a soy allergy can range from mild reactions like skin rashes and digestive problems to severe and potentially life-threatening anaphylaxis.

While no illnesses have been reported, the FSIS urges consumers who have purchased the recalled products to discard them immediately or return them to the place of purchase.

The Dearborn Sausage Company has been contacted for comment.
