Sat Sep 14 11:58:58 UTC 2024: ## Indian Athlete Avinash Sable Finishes Ninth in Diamond League Steeplechase Final

**Brussels, Belgium:** Indian athlete Avinash Sable finished ninth in the 3000m steeplechase final at the Diamond League in Brussels on Friday night. Sable, celebrating his 30th birthday, clocked a time of 8:17.09s, ending his campaign in ninth place.

The race was won by Kenya’s Amos Serem, who stunned Paris Olympic champion Soufiane El Bakkali of Morocco with a time of 8:06.90s, securing the Diamond League title. Serem maintained his lead in the final 400m of the race, while El Bakkali fell short by 1.70s and finished second.

Sable, who had finished 14th in the overall Diamond League standings, participated in the season final due to the withdrawal of four higher-ranked athletes. This was Sable’s first Diamond League final debut.

Serem’s victory marks a redemption arc after he failed to qualify for the final in Paris. He had a lapse in the water jump, forcing him to go back around and try again, ultimately costing him a spot in the Olympics.

The Diamond League continues with the javelin throw final on Saturday, where Paris 2024 silver medalist Neeraj Chopra will compete. Chopra, currently fourth in the standings, faces stiff competition from Paris 2024 bronze medalist Anderson Peters and Germany’s Julian Weber.
