Sat Sep 14 00:47:01 UTC 2024: ## Supreme Court Grants Bail to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in Liquor Policy Corruption Case
**New Delhi:** Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was granted bail by the Supreme Court on Friday, ending his nearly six-month detention in connection with a graft case related to the city’s liquor policy. The court’s decision comes after Kejriwal was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in June, just days before he was set to be released on interim bail in a related case by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).
Kejriwal and his Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) have consistently maintained that the charges against him are politically motivated and aimed at undermining the party’s success. The Supreme Court, while acknowledging the validity of Kejriwal’s arrest, stated that his continued detention was unjustified considering the circumstances.
Justice Ujjal Bhuyan of the Supreme Court bench questioned the CBI’s timing of the arrest, suggesting that the agency’s actions were aimed at frustrating the interim bail granted in the ED case. He also criticized the CBI for its lack of cooperation and urged the agency to act as an “uncaged parrot” rather than a “caged parrot” in its investigations.
The court imposed certain conditions on Kejriwal’s bail, including a prohibition on visiting his office or the Delhi Secretariat. He is also barred from making any public comment on the merits of the case.
The decision sparked celebrations among AAP leaders and supporters, who hailed the ruling as a victory for truth and justice.
Meanwhile, BJP leaders reacted by accusing Kejriwal of dishonesty and demanding his resignation.
The Supreme Court’s ruling marks a significant development in the ongoing investigation into the alleged irregularities in the Delhi liquor policy, with implications for the political landscape in the capital city.
