Thu Sep 12 18:36:00 UTC 2024: ## Local Nursing Students Celebrate Entry into Clinical Practice with White Coat Ceremony
**DANVILLE, ILLINOIS** – Lakeview College of Nursing (LCN) recently held a special White Coat Ceremony to mark the transition of its bachelor’s degree nursing students into clinical practice. The event, held at OSF Sacred Heart Medical Center in Danville, honored 18 students, including Morgan Yoder of Montgomery, who received their white coats.
The ceremony, followed by a reception at the LCN facility, saw faculty members, also clad in white coats, symbolically cloaking the students with their new garments. The white coat signifies compassionate caring, according to Associate Professor Rita Wallace, who spoke about its history and symbolism.
Instructor Travis Whisman, the keynote speaker, emphasized the importance of clinical experiences in shaping a student’s nursing journey. “Clinical is the place where you will clarify the type of nurse you want to be and confirm the type of nurse you don’t want to be,” he stated.
The ceremony culminated with the Nightingale Nursing Pledge and the White Coat Oath led by Lakeview’s Student Government Association President, Amanda Johnson. Students recited vows dedicated to practicing their profession to the highest standard and advocating for patient health, safety, and rights.
Lakeview College of Nursing, a private institution specializing in nursing education since 1894, offers a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree.
