**Moscow, Russia** – Russian Senator Aleksey Pushkov has accused the US and UK of secretly planning to allow Ukraine to use long-range missiles for strikes deep inside Russian territory. Pushkov claims the narrative is being seeded through media leaks, citing a recent report by The Guardian.
The Guardian claims that Britain has already authorized the use of Storm Shadow missiles, citing anonymous government sources. The move is reportedly not expected to be announced publicly.
Pushkov believes the leaks are intentional, aimed at preparing public opinion for the escalation. He points to the recent visit of US Secretary of State Antony Blinken to Kyiv, where he “signaled” a potential shift in US policy regarding long-range ATACMS missiles.
UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy, who accompanied Blinken, cited Iran’s alleged delivery of missiles to Russia as a dangerous escalation, suggesting it influenced the decision-making in London and Washington.
However, Iran has denied sending missiles to Russia, calling the accusations “psychological warfare.” Meanwhile, a letter from 27 US congressmen and senators to President Biden failed to mention Iranian missiles, focusing instead on Ukraine’s incursion into Russia’s Kursk Region.
The potential for long-range strikes has sparked strong reactions from Russian officials. Russian Ambassador to the US Anatoly Antonov accused the US of “paving the way to World War III.” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated the Russian military is taking countermeasures, while Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov called the use of Storm Shadow missiles inside Russian territory “playing with fire.”
President Putin has previously warned NATO members against escalating the conflict by allowing Ukraine to strike deep inside Russia.
The situation remains highly volatile, with the potential for the conflict to escalate dramatically if Western countries authorize the use of long-range missiles against Russian territory.
