**NEW YORK** – Taylor Swift and Post Malone kicked off the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards with a win for Best Collaboration for their hit single “Fortnight,” marking the first Moon Person awarded during the televised ceremony. The duo accepted the award from Flavor Flav and Olympic gymnast Jordan Chiles, with Swift taking the opportunity to acknowledge the 23rd anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
“Waking up this morning in New York on Sept. 11, I’ve just been thinking about what happened 23 years ago,” Swift said, emphasizing that the day’s events paled in comparison to the significance of the anniversary.
She went on to praise Malone’s talent and down-to-earth nature, playfully teasing him about his habit of calling her “ma’am.” Malone reciprocated the compliments, calling Swift “one of the most kind and talented people I’ve ever had the honor of knowing” and marveling at her dedication to the “Fortnight” music video.
The gothic video, released alongside Swift’s album “The Tortured Poets Department,” features Swift and Malone as lovers turned exes and includes a mini Dead Poets Society reunion with Ethan Hawke and Josh Charles.
Swift is nominated for a total of 12 Moon People at this year’s VMAs, making her the most nominated artist. The ceremony continues at the UBS Arena in New York.
