Thu Sep 12 00:50:00 UTC 2024: ## Manipur Remains Tense as Students Clash with Security Forces

**IMPHAL, Sept 11:** The situation in Manipur remains tense after students clashed with security forces during a march to the Raj Bhavan on Tuesday. Curfew, imposed in Imphal on Tuesday afternoon, remains in place, with additional security forces deployed and frequent patrols underway to prevent further unrest.

The clash erupted as students attempted to march towards the Raj Bhavan to demand the removal of the state’s DGP and security advisor. Police used tear gas to disperse the students, who reportedly threw stones at security personnel in the Khwairamband and Kakwa Naorem Leikai areas.

Over 55 students sustained injuries during the clashes and were admitted to RIMS hospital, according to a student body.

In a statement released late Tuesday night, the Raj Bhavan confirmed that student representatives met with Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya and submitted a memorandum detailing their demands. The Governor assured them that he would act in the best interest of the students and the people of Manipur.

Meanwhile, search operations and area domination exercises continued in Kangpokpi district, where arms and explosives were recovered, police said.

The government amended its order on Tuesday evening, clarifying that the suspension of internet services in response to the student protests only applies to the five valley districts.
