Thu Sep 12 13:21:59 UTC 2024: ## Relief for Mumbai-Navi Mumbai commuters: Thane Creek Bridge to open soon

**Mumbai, India:** Commuters travelling between Mumbai and Navi Mumbai are set to breathe a sigh of relief as the long-awaited Thane Creek Bridge is nearing completion. The north-bound carriageway, connecting Mumbai to Navi Mumbai, is expected to open this month, with three lanes dedicated to traffic flow. The inauguration is likely to be done by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to Mumbai for the inauguration of the underground Metro 3 line.

The bridge project, undertaken by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) at a cost of Rs 559 crores, is a twin-bridge project. While the north-bound carriageway opens this month, the south-bound carriageway is expected to be operational by February 2025. Construction firm L&T has been responsible for the project execution.

The new bridge, spanning 1.84 km with additional approach roads, is expected to significantly reduce congestion at the existing bridge near Vashi. New toll booths have also been constructed to accommodate the increased traffic flow.

Meanwhile, another major infrastructure project in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region is gaining momentum. The Thane Integral Ring Metro Project Corridor, estimated at Rs 12,200 crores, will cover 29 km along the western periphery of Thane city. The corridor will connect major business hubs and provide an efficient transport option for employees, with completion expected by 2029. The tendering process for the project is set to commence soon.
