**Jos, Plateau State:** The Plateau State House of Assembly has finally reached its full complement after five lawmakers, previously recognized as winners by the Appeal Court, were sworn in during a plenary session on Wednesday.
The newly sworn-in members, all belonging to the All Progressives Congress (APC), include Owen Dagogot, Theodore Maiyaki, Yakubu Sanda, Dachung Dadon, and Dalyop Gyang. These five, along with one Labour Party member, had been recognized by the Appeal Court in November 2022, but were previously prevented from taking their oaths by the House Speaker.
The delay in their swearing-in sparked controversy, with the APC accusing the Speaker of following directives from Governor Caleb Mutfwang, a claim the state government has denied. The party also accused the Speaker of denying the affected constituencies their constitutional right to representation for nearly eight months.
Following the swearing-in, the APC spokesperson, Shittu Bamaiyi, expressed pride in the newly complete House, stating that it will now be able to conduct robust deliberations with the full complement of 24 members. The House is currently made up of 22 APC members, one Labour Party member, and the Speaker from the Young People’s Party (YPP).
The Plateau State House of Assembly, now fully constituted, is set to begin its legislative duties with a renewed sense of purpose.
