Thu Sep 12 01:00:02 UTC 2024: ## PGA Tour Slammed by 9/11 Families for Meeting with Saudi Fund Amidst Anniversary

Families of victims who lost their lives in the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks have strongly condemned the PGA Tour for holding meetings with Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) on the days surrounding the anniversary.

The meetings, which are believed to have taken place in New York on Tuesday and are expected to last multiple days, occurred on the eve of the 23rd anniversary of the attacks. Brett Eagleson, president of 9/11 Justice and whose father John died in the tragedy, called the talks “completely tone deaf.”

Eagleson expressed outrage, stating that the PGA Tour, who previously stood with 9/11 victims and families against Saudi Arabia’s alleged involvement in the attacks, seems to have prioritized a potential billion-dollar deal over the tragic event. He criticized PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan for prioritizing the deal over the families and their need for closure.

The statement comes amidst reports that the Saudi government played a role in the 9/11 attacks, as revealed in recent CBS News reports. Though the Saudi Arabian government has vehemently denied any involvement, the families believe the timing of the PGA Tour’s meetings is insensitive and disrespectful.

While initial reports suggested that Tiger Woods and Adam Scott attended the negotiations, Sports Illustrated confirmed that Woods did not participate in the meeting in person.

The families of 9/11 victims are calling for the PGA Tour to prioritize their need for closure and justice before pursuing any financial agreements with the Saudi government. They are demanding accountability and an apology from the PGA Tour for their perceived disregard of the anniversary and the families’ feelings.
