Thu Sep 12 19:16:00 UTC 2024: ## Labette Cardinals Fall to Kansas City Kansas Blue Devils in Straight Sets

PITTSBURG – The Labette Cardinals suffered their fifth consecutive loss on Wednesday, falling to the No. 23 ranked Kansas City Kansas Blue Devils in a straight-set sweep (25-17, 25-20, 25-18) during a home KJCCC match at Pittsburg State.

Labette started strong, taking a 12-7 lead in the first set. However, the Blue Devils quickly countered, capitalizing on the Cardinals’ inconsistency in passing and setting. The Cardinals struggled to mount a consistent offense and were unable to keep up with the Blue Devils’ strong defense.

Serafina Auberry led Labette with seven kills, followed by Madyson Goossen with four. Jill Holwick contributed 10 assists, while Dayanara Castillo recorded 20 digs. For Kansas City Kansas, Mercedez Brown topped the Blue Devils with nine kills, Briazia had 20 assists, and Alejandra Aponte had 11 digs.

Despite the tough loss, Labette head coach Haley Cook remains optimistic, highlighting the team’s potential and their commitment to improving. She acknowledged the need for greater consistency and focus on the fundamentals.

Labette will look to rebound on the road next Wednesday, facing a tough opponent with a better record. The Cardinals are scheduled to host Independence on Sept. 25th, hoping to utilize their home court advantage for the first time this season.
