Thu Sep 12 00:50:59 UTC 2024: ## Boots UK and Ireland Appoints New Managing Director

**London, UK -** Anthony Hemmerdinger has been appointed as the new Managing Director of Boots UK and Ireland, effective November 4th. He succeeds Seb James, who has led the company since 2018 and is moving on to a new role in the healthcare sector.

Hemmerdinger, who previously served as Boots’ retail and operations director for two years, brings extensive experience in the retail industry. He has held senior positions at Asda, Greene King, Sainsbury’s, and Carphone Warehouse, and began his career with a Saturday job at Boots.

The appointment comes as Boots, owned by Walgreens Boots Alliance, continues its transformation journey. The company has seen solid trading in the UK this year, with like-for-like sales rising by six per cent in the quarter ending May.

Hemmerdinger’s appointment follows a difficult 2023, which saw the high street chain close around 300 stores. However, the company has highlighted his contributions to its success, particularly in spearheading the expansion of its beauty offerings and enhancing its in-store healthcare and beauty services.

Ornella Barra, Chief Operating Officer of International at Walgreens Boots Alliance, praised Hemmerdinger’s “extensive retail experience” and expressed confidence in his ability to ensure a seamless leadership transition.

Hemmerdinger expressed his honour at taking on the role, stating that Boots “holds a unique position at the heart of the UK’s health and beauty sector.” He also thanked Seb James for his leadership and support during his tenure.
