**Mumbai, India -** Traffic congestion is set to ease in key areas of Mumbai as the new bridge connecting the Coastal Road directly to the Bandra-Worli Sea Link opens for public use tomorrow. This marks the fourth phase of the ambitious Coastal Road project, which aims to alleviate traffic woes across the city.
The new bridge, built at a cost exceeding Rs 14,000 crore, promises significant travel time reductions. Commuters travelling from Marine Drive to Bandra can expect their journey to shrink from 45-60 minutes to just 15-20 minutes. Similarly, reaching the airport from South Mumbai will now take approximately 30 minutes, compared to over an hour previously.
The bridge will be operational between 7 am and 11 pm for vehicles travelling from South Mumbai to Bandra. However, vehicles heading south will still need to use the regular route until the entire Coastal Road is connected to the sea link.
Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde and Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis visited the new bridge today, a day before its grand opening. CM Shinde highlighted the use of advanced technology and expertise from foreign nations in the construction of the Coastal Road. He also revealed plans to extend the road from Marine Drive to Versova, ensuring that concerns raised by local residents during construction are addressed.
The Coastal Road project has been implemented in phases, with the southbound section from Worli to Marine Drive opening on March 11, followed by the northbound section from Marine Drive to Haji Ali on June 10 and the Haji Ali to Worli stretch on July 11. The opening of the fourth section tomorrow marks a significant milestone in the project’s completion, bringing much-needed relief to Mumbai’s traffic woes.
