Thu Sep 12 17:56:00 UTC 2024: ## Monterey High School Volleyball Team Rallies for Victory in District 7-A Match

**CLARKRANGE** – After a tough weekend and a disappointing loss on Monday, the Monterey High School Lady Wildcats volleyball team bounced back with a hard-fought 3-2 victory over District 7-A rival Clarkrange on Tuesday night.

The Lady Wildcats, who had lost all five matches at the Rocky Top Classic in Sevierville and were shut out by York Institute on Monday, found themselves down 2 sets to none against Clarkrange. However, they rallied to win the next three sets, proving their resilience and determination.

Megan LaFever led Monterey’s offensive attack with 17 kills, while Jalee Johnson provided crucial support with a career-high 30 assists.

“We set the goal at the tournament of simply improving as a team,” said MHS head coach Todd Daugherty. “We did improve in some areas, but we suffered an injury to our captain and middle blocker, Galy Hernandez.”

Hernandez is currently undergoing an evaluation on her knee, and her status remains uncertain.

“We started tired and lazy on Monday, but we picked it up in the third set,” Daugherty added. “We needed this win to prove that we could succeed without Galy at middle. I thought her backup, Raechel Schliter, did an awesome job despite being young.”

Despite their recent struggles, the Lady Wildcats remain in contention in District 7-A. They currently hold a 5-2 record in the district and will face another crucial matchup against Gordonsville on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
