Thu Sep 12 01:00:00 UTC 2024: ## Manipur Governor Flees Imphal After Student Protests Turn Violent
**Imphal, Manipur:** Amidst escalating tensions in Manipur, Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya left Imphal for Guwahati on Wednesday, following a day of violent clashes between students and security forces. The students, demanding the removal of the state’s DGP and security advisor, had marched towards Raj Bhavan on Tuesday, leading to a confrontation with police.
Over 55 students and security personnel sustained minor injuries during the clashes, where tear gas was used to disperse the protesters. The students, who had been protesting since Monday, were demanding action against officials they blame for the ongoing ethnic violence in the state, which has seen the use of drones and rockets.
Following the clashes, the Governor met with 11 student representatives on Tuesday night. However, further unrest was avoided on Wednesday with the implementation of a curfew and internet suspension in Imphal valley. Additional security forces have been deployed and sensitive areas in the state capital have been barricaded.
In response to the unrest, Chief Minister N Biren Singh met with students from Imphal College and Ibotonsana Higher Secondary School, assuring them that his government is committed to addressing their concerns. He also stated that justice will be served for those killed in drone attacks, even if it takes time.
Meanwhile, Manipur University has postponed all postgraduate and undergraduate examinations until further notice, with rescheduled dates to be announced soon.
