**Oskaloosa, IA** – A 4-year-old boy tragically lost his life on Wednesday afternoon in rural Mahaska County after an accidental firearm discharge.
Authorities responded to a call about a gunshot victim at approximately 2 p.m. on 250th Street. Upon arrival, deputies found the boy with a gunshot wound and immediately began life-saving measures. Sadly, the boy was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Mahaska County Sheriff’s Office has stated that the preliminary investigation indicates the incident was an accidental discharge. The investigation remains ongoing.
The community is shocked and saddened by this tragic event. The identity of the young boy has not been released.
