Fri Sep 13 05:47:38 UTC 2024: ## West Bengal Governor Declares Social Boycott of Chief Minister, Calls Her “Lady Macbeth”

**Kolkata, India** – West Bengal Governor C.V. Ananda Bose has escalated tensions with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, calling her the “Lady Macbeth of Bengal” and announcing a social boycott. Bose’s comments came in response to Banerjee’s handling of the recent rape and murder of a trainee doctor at the RG Kar hospital in Kolkata.

“The Lady Macbeth of West Bengal holds the waters of Hoogly but cannot cleanse the tainted hands,” Bose said, criticizing Banerjee’s role as both Home Minister and Chief Minister while the state sees rising violence and lack of security. He added, “The Home Minister is CM and CM is protesting instead of protecting.”

Bose has vowed to avoid sharing any public platform with Banerjee and will limit his role as Governor to “constitutional obligations.” He accused Banerjee of violating constitutional provisions and will take “proactive steps against her.”

Banerjee, in her defense, stated she is willing to resign if it brings justice to the victim and accused those protesting the incident of trying to destabilize her government. “They don’t want justice. They just want the chair,” she said.

Bose’s remarks have drawn strong criticism from the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC). Spokesperson Kunal Ghosh called the Governor’s comments “inappropriate” and “politically motivated.” Ghosh highlighted that Banerjee has already maintained distance from the Governor, highlighting the Governor’s approach to the Chief Minister during a recent Independence Day event.

The rape and murder of the trainee doctor has sparked widespread outrage across India, with doctors staging protests demanding justice. Despite a Supreme Court order to resume work, the doctors have continued their strike, demanding improvements in safety measures and accountability.
