Controversial commentator Katie Hopkins has once again targeted Kate Garraway, this time taking aim at the latter’s recent National Television Award win for her documentary “Kate Garraway: Derek’s Story.”
Hopkins, known for her outspoken opinions, took to X (formerly Twitter) to express her skepticism about Garraway’s win. She claimed that the award was simply a “self-promotion” by ITV for one of its own presenters, implying that Garraway’s success is solely due to her ongoing coverage of her husband Derek Draper’s battle with long-term COVID complications.
Hopkins also questioned the necessity of another documentary about Draper, claiming that the story has already been told numerous times.
This is not the first time Hopkins has targeted Garraway. Earlier this year, she mocked the upcoming documentary, suggesting it would be filled with “previously unseen footage” that was already widely known.
Garraway, however, has defended the documentary, emphasizing that it was Derek’s wish to share his story and shed light on the challenges faced by caregivers. The documentary, which won the Authored Documentary category at the NTAs, is available on ITVX.
Despite Hopkins’ scathing critique, Garraway’s “Derek’s Story” has been praised for its poignant portrayal of a family facing a difficult journey with compassion and honesty.
